In Royal Hue
by
In royal hue
In Royal Hue
Buhda’s way
And Fuedal sway
Were swept away.
The French came back,
Yanks in their track,
To prevent break of dawn
Their intent
They could only postpone
Great event.
A poet’s dream
So calm and serene,
Ho’s early residence
Ancient charm in evidence.
Boundless extravagance
Of late royal decadence,
Eclectic without measure,
The city of great leisure
And undying romance,
Its beauty didn’t enhance.
Music of Bagota’s gong
Tender as your lover song
Moving up the river
Echoes on forever
And answer echoes
Answer, loving,
Loving, loving
Hanoi, November 1975
