.

I met Abu Omar in person once, when he gave a very enlightening lecture on the resistance movement in Beirut in 1975 or 1976.

I joined the Palestine Research Centre in 1974 and was chased out by the civil war in 1977. I still remember the lecture and how brilliant and foresighted it was.

Of course by living in Beirut at the time and by being involved in the movement, I had a chance to learn closely about the unique qualities and contributions of Abu Omar and his outstanding leadership.

I still vividly remember the shock and disbelief that befell all of us following his disappearance.

His distinguished role and place in the Palestinian struggle for freedom and justice will never be forgotten.
